St James Priory Today

In 1444, St James Priory was made part of the endowment of King's College Cambridge. The Lordship of St James Priory remained in King's College possession until 1992, when it was sold privately. Since 2011, the Lordship is owned by Dr. Ramon Bravo Gonzalez, the current Lord of the Manor.

In the past, the Priory housed four monks and a prior and consisted of a quadrangle of buildings with a stone-built cloister. The site of the old Priory is presently occupied by Old Abbey Close, situated on a bluff above St James' Weir on the River Exe. Old Abbey House, located at Old Abbey Close, has a garden that is almost completed surrounded by an old cob wall considered to have been the original precinct wall of the Priory.

The current site of Isca College of Media Arts, a school for students aged 11-16, is also located in the former area of the Manor.

The National Documents Record, maintained by English Heritage, provides additional information on St James Priory, including maps and aerial photographs of the current site.
